One of the most important holidays in the Philippine history is the Independence day because it marks the Nation's freedom from Spain, Japan and America who ruled the Philippines a long time ago.  It's been almost 120 years of celebrating independence day since twelfth of June year 1898. As a proud citizen, do modern-day Filipinos remember it's relevance, aside from it being a holiday for the entire nation?

It is very important to know about independence day especially to the youth so that we are fully aware and we could learn to understand the sacrifices of our ancestors made, just to set our country free. Because during this times they were treated as slaves in their own country and the inequality between the rich Spaniard to the poor Filipinos.

The significance of celebrating Independence day is when  knowing about our past help us understand our present better so that we can prepare for the future. Which is why teaching the youth about history and inspiring them to be nationalistic is very important as they can develop love for our country and for their fellow Filipinos. It also serves as an inspiration for them so that they can strive someday and make their own mark in our country's history. And Filipinos must remember their history for they must own and ought to celebrate it.
