KANNAWIDAN FESTIVAL
Every year the province of Ilocos Sur always celebrates the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival. This festival commemorates the separation of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.Ylocos which is a term to refer to the coastal inhabitants. It literally meant “from the lowlands”.Ilocos Sur is located along the western coast of Northern Luzon. It is where the UNESCO world heritage site of Vigan City is located.
Vigan and the whole of the province is rich with indigenous cultural heritage that showcase the life, beliefs, traditions and practices of the province’s early inhabitants.the festival is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the province, as well as a tribute to its outstanding citizens. It aims, among others, to underscore the importance of preserving the people’s rich culture and traditions, as well as to promote the province’s products, which are mostly agricultural.Aside from shopping for antiques and furniture, offers a lot of options for food-trippers. With their different delicacies and products all over the entire province. There were cultural competitions participated in not only by talents from Ilocos Sur but also from other provinces in Region I, as well as cultural performances featuring local talents, among them, a zarzuela show. But the highlight among the contest is the contest for the search of Saniata Ti Agtutubo, wherein Ilocanas compete for beauty and brains.
Being an Ilocano must be a thing to be proud of, because of the beauty and culture which is why tourist all over the are coming back to the province of Ilocos Sur.
